  1. Hi!
Mi name's Diego. I'm 24 years old. I've studied physics for 5 years at Universiy of Pisa. I'm currently doing my Msc in Theoretical Physics in Pisa. My thesis is almost finished, and I hope I will graduate in January 2010. In these three months I want to improve my english knowledge, because I need TOEFL certification to apply for a Phd in foreign countries. I think that give an explanation here of my research interest will be boring beyond all belief!
Besides studing theoretical physics I like modern literature, in particular social noir fiction. Maybe during this course I'll try to read Raymond Chandler's fiction directly in english: it would be the first reading of a literary text in english for me.
My favourite noir fiction writer is Jean-Claude Izzo, a French writer of Marseilles. Above all I like the setting of Izzo's novel, because I live close to the south of France and so I can recover in my mind all the places, that Izzo describes.
I've have studied French when I was very young, for this reason I've forgotten the grammar but I can speak French better than English.
I like traveling very much, but this summer I didn't go anywere, because I've worked hard on my thesis. Last year I spent two months in Chiapas, a region in the south of Mexico, and I really enjoyed my experience. I've also learned a bit of Spanish, talking all the time with mexican people!
Finally I want to admit that I don't like English very much. I love English music, but my mind have a lot of troubles with the sound of spoken English. I hope that this course could help me and my mind to get over this gap.

    See you tomorrow

    Diego

  2. Hi my name is Riccardo, I was born in Pisa, the town where I live at the present.
After high school I started University, choosing the course of Law,and now I'm ending my studies in international law.
I hope to graduate in Spring for two reasons, the first is that Springtime is the best season for reaching a goal, and the second one -the serious one- is that I could think of leaving Italy to get a job that's gonna make me travel all over the world. I said that because travelling is one of my greatest passions. Equally I love reading too.In fact I consider a book an experience very close to a travel, because I'm always curious to know as stories or tells as people and places. The other thing which can't be out of my life is music,a passion that's part of me since I was ten, when I started to play the piano.
Recently I have learnt to play bas guitar and I have been taking part of a band for two years. Now I'm playing trying to forget the regret owing to the split of my favourite rock band, that's broke up this summer..:(
About this course, I hope to realize my dream. I really would like to understand English people speaking. I would like to let them see that even an Italian can understand their damned and so strict accent.
In truth, during these months I hope to improve my English,in view of getting the TOEFL certification in the future.
    That's all.
    Bye.

  3. Hi everybody!
My name's Emanuele and I'm 24 years old. I'm from Pietragalla, a small hilly village in Basilicata. It is a very nice place where you can relax and breath pure air, maybe not ideal for young people who want to have fun. I study Telecommunication Engineering in Pisa and I'm attending the last year of courses; I hope I will start my thesis in the second semester of 2010 and, if there will be the possibility, I will prepare it abroad. Besides, in future, I could take part to international projects, working in groups with foreigner people and in that case I'll need an advanced knowledge of English language. These are some of the reasons for which I decided to attend this English course. My interests in life are sports, music, cinema, technologies and friends. About sports above all I like soccer; I practised it, playing in several teams, till the age of 23, when I came here in Pisa. I like listening several music genres, in particular alternative and progressive rock/metal. I'd also like to learn playing guitar but I haven't so much time to spend for a music course so in next months I'll try to do it by myself... I know it will be hard ... and for now this is all, if someone wants to known other things about my life, please ask me when we meet at CLI, so we can practise our English.

    See you Tomorrow.

    Emanuele

  4. Hi! I'm Laura and I'm 24 years old.
I live in Viareggio, but I study Construction Enginearing in Pisa. I like very living in Viareggio very much, it is fantastic to see the sea everyday! the problem is in summer when everybody goes to the beach and I have to stay at home to study :-( fortunatly I'm very enthusiastic about my studies. I hope to finish as soon as possible and to start my thesis in the second semester of 2010. I would like to prepeare it abroad and this is the most important reason for which I have decided to attend this course. I hope to improve my english ability. Probabily my biggest problem is writing and I have to win my shyness in speaking.
Sincerely I don't like english, and in generale languages, very much: when I was at school I prefered to study latin or greek to english, but I'm conscious of the importance of this language and I don't like to not be very able in it and to feel out of the "english comunity"! I try to improve my english knowledge reading books or magazines, but it's not sufficient!
    see you tomorrow
    bye bye

  5. Hello to everybody!
My name is Lorenzo and I come from Empoli.
I’m studying Digital Humanities in Pisa and I’m doing the lasts exams before to get my Bachelor’s degree.
I’m taking this course because I would like to improve my English skills and also because I would like to try and get an international certification, TOEFL or IELST, to be more competitive if I decide to go abroad to continue my studies or to find a job.
My biggest problem with the English language is to understand the English native speakers, so that sometimes I've tried to watching original English/American movies, but without subtitles it has been very very hard!

I really like to travel, especially I love Scandinavia, in fact I’ve been in Sweden and in Denmark, where I lived 6 months with the Erasmus project and where I enjoyed a lot meeting people from all the world (with most of them I’m still in touch).
My favourite hobbies are movies (I like action movies, comedies, fictions), books (my favourite writer is Charles Bukowski), videogames, informatics and sports (I enjoy watching football but I play basketball for 15 years!).
During the week sometimes I practice English reading forums, blogs and chatting with some friends.
Mmm… nothing else comes to mind :)

    See you tomorrow!

  6. Hello everyone!
I'm Emanuela, i'm studing Computer Science at University of Pisa and i'm impatiently waiting to start my master thesis.
I came from Grosseto, in the south of Tuscany, and i go bach home almost every weekend to work at my sister's restaurant.
I like listen to music, watch movies, read books and i love travel. I hope to became a smart old woman with energy, and of course money, enough to move around the world when i'll be retired as many old people that i could often see in my past travels do.
I'm attending this course to keep fresh my English and to try to improve it not just because of studies and work require this language but cause it's funny. I loved the feeling that i proved when i was in Erasmus speaking English every day: i went abroad just with the knowledge from high school and without have practiced my skills before, many people can tell you how much i was bad, i was so afraid at the begining but at the end it was so amazing can understand voices around or just think in English.
Hoping to reach again this feeling with this course, i wish you good night and see you tomorrow at lesson! :)

  7. Hello!
My name's Marilena and I come from a little town near Bari. I studied languages at the high school and I liked that kind of school very much. If I could do it, I would choose it again!
I've just written I liked studying languages, but I have to tell you that my studies took an unexpected way after the high school: I decided to enrol in computer science! Everybody always ask me why I let my studies change direction and what I usually answer is that I couldn't stand literature any more. I studied Italian, French, German, English and Latin literatures. Of course I think literature is necessary and interesting but what I like in languages is communication, dialogues, translations and grammar rather than literature! I needed to do something else which was different from literature.
Now I'm in the first year of the master degree in Computer Science and Networking, here in Pisa, after my degree in Computer Science and Digital Communication that I get at the university of Bari.
When I heard about the possibility to attend a language course at the CLI, I decided to apply first of all because I want to improve my English skills, especially my speaking ones and also because I would like to have something that certify that I know at least a little bit of this language I like so much! However the most important reason is that my lectures at the university are in English and my exams will be in English too! Moreover I have international collegues to talk to, i.e. people who came from all over the world to attend the same course I'm attending in Pisa and I'd like to speak fluent English to them! It's half past one and for me it's time to go! Tomorrow I want to be wide awake! See you tomorrow! Bye bye!

  8. Hi my name's Salvatore,I'm 27 years old. I come from San Giovanni Rotondo, a small town in the south of Italy.I went away seven years ago when I have finished the secondary school. Now I'm a student who are studying Telecommunication engineering,I will graduate in the next year,I hope.
In the free time I love sport,I prefer football but also I like basketball and volleyball, watching and doing.I like reading magazine and book.
Sometimes I watch films and television series in original language, the second more than the first, because I think the Italian dubbing somotimes not is very good.

I'm in this course because probably the english is more important than other subjects which we studying at university for my future job. Finally I hope I'll watch my favorite TV series in original language.
It's too late,I have to go to the english course :-D

  9. Hi everyone!
I'm Giulia, I'm 20, I live in a little town between Pisa and Livorno and I'm studying European Literatures in Pisa. I started university last year so I'm still not very expert about university life and my ideas about my future are not completely clear yet.
I've decided to attend the CLI course just because I'm really into English, London is my favourite city and the British culture and language fascinate me a lot. I've been to London 3 times but I went there on my own only after my high school exam (last summer, then) while when I was 15 and 16 I stayed in a college so I couldn't visit what I wanted to. When I went there last summer I visited my favourite place in London: Camden Town! I like it maybe because I used to be a punk girl when I was younger but I still like peculiar hairstyles and clothes.
Unluckily I'm a little bit shy so I have some difficulties in expressing myself fluently and I've some problems understanding people who talk in English too (whatever are their accents or dialects). This was one more reason to attend the CLI course!
Talking about my hobbies I like reading (urban fantasy is my favourite genre of reading) and listening and playing rock music, in fact I've been playing the drums for about 5 yeas. My brother plays the drums too so our neighbours aren't very happy!
I'll go playing with my boyfriend's Nintendo DS now =)
See you on Monday level C1 and Luisa!!!

  10. Hi everybody!
I'm Mara. This is my third year here in Pisa, I'm attending a master in applied geophysics and this year the end seems to be reached ... and then, hopefully, I'll be ready for the worldwide hydrocarbon research!...hopefully...
I'm from Apulia, a land I found I love a lot only when I moved away from it. There are things you cannot appreciate until you miss them.
This year I had the chance to travel a lot around Europe and meet a lot of European geophysics' students: it has been such an amazing and challenging experience! I found a main difference between E. sciences students and us Italian ones: our Achilles's heel is the lack of complete mastery of English language, which penalizes exchange of ideas and knowledge. That's why I chose to attend this course of English, not only to start collecting "paper-pieces". In the meantime I try to keep my English in training listening a lot of music from all around the world (that's my passion) and watching movies and serials in mother tongue. The thing I put apart is my written production, and so I lost points at it, maybe I have to find a pen-friend ... but I wonder: do pen-friendship still exist in internet age? Oh ... do not talk me about internet in this period! The router's owner on which I connected went away and now I fell back in the early '900: only with radio as media!Fortunally the university libraries move with the time!
Ok, now I'm becoming boring to myself too!
Have a nice week-end guys! See you!
    Mara

  11. Hi!
My name is Sonia and I'm 24 years old. I'm in my 5th year of Telecommunication Engineering and I've just started to work at my thesis about radar applications.
I travel a lot by train because I commute and I use to listen to music or to read (sometimes both of them at the same time)to stand better hours I should spend on train. My favorite literary genre is thriller and authors I love are Ellis Peters and Iain Pears.
I come from San Vincenzo, a nice small coastal town in front of Capraia Island and when days are so clear, from the balcony of my house I can see not only Elba and Capraia Islands, but Corsica too! You could be dumbfounded seeing this kind of seascape, but I bet you would change your mind in windy days, especially when Libeccio is blowing!!
About me there is no much to say, except for my choose of attendind this English course at CLI. I've studied English only at high school and, as you can imagine, my knowledge is related to English Literature and History. But now, I think it has arrived the moment to learn more about familiar and informal expressions useful to interact with people in everyday life.
I think it's enough ( maybe too much) and so I wish you a nice weekend!
    See you on Monday!
    Bye bye!!

  12. Hi, I'm Grazia and I'm from Lazio. I gradueted in Cultural Heritage in Pisa and I'm working for a laboratory of Scuola Normale at the moment which develops cataloguing systems of works of art using ICT, and also studies the best solution of how display and organize a musem collection.
I'd like working as a curator and I thought it could be a great opportunity for me doing a working experience in a foreign musem like volunteer or intern, for understanding how it manages its collection. For this reason I decided attending a CLI course again to improve my english, in particular in listening, get more fluent in speaking and increase my skills in writing. I'm so enthusiastic of course's first lesson during which teacher gave us some useful advice and I thought "this is the right way but I have to apply myself a lot, and I want do it!".
Have a nice week end, see you on monday.

  13. Hi everybody!
    My name's Isabella and I'm 25.
I come from Massa, a little town in the north-west of Tuscany. I can say it's a very nice place to live in, because it's close both to sea and mountains and the climate is very good.
But unfortunately there are not many cultural events or art exhibitions in my town. This is a bad thing for me, because I like going to museums and visiting exhibitions in general.
Sometimes I travel to visit cities and places of historical and artistic interest, if I have some free time and money!
In fact, my main passion is to study history, especially art history.
I graduated in Cultural Heritage Studies and now I'm in my second year of the specialistic Art history's degree at Pisa university.
In my future I'd like to become a teacher or a turistic or museal guide, so maybe I will need to speak English very well!
I've decided to attending this English course to improve my language abilities, especially understanding and speaking. I know it will be hard for me to speak fluently a foreign language, because I'm a very shy person...but I want to apply myself and I hope to be successful!
I also hope to have a holiday in London next year...so I will try myself with English-speaking people!
Now I have to go... See you soon at lesson. Bye!

As a computer scientist english will be my main language at work so a good knowledge of it is mandatory. I already try to improve my english watching tv series and reading books but i hope the CLI course will speed up my learning. I don't like to write very much so i greet everybody and see you tomorrow.

  15. Hello everybody!
My real name is Lenuta,I know,it is a bit strange for you to pronounce it,in reality even I like it,so people use to call me Roxana.I'm 24 years old and I come from a little town on the North of Romania, which is known, usually, for the capital ,Bucharest with its huge Palace of Parliament, for the Transylvania, with its Castel of Dracula and for Constanta, the great city on the Black Sea.Unfortunately, from my house to the Black sea it's a very long way,so I didn't go frequentely.
Three years ago I decided to come to Italy to find a job well -paid in order to pay my fees at university I've been to.First,I wanted to stay only for three months, but then things have changed and I had to give up university.Last year I began to study Forein Languages and Literatures at the University of Pisa .I chose to study English, eventhough I never studied it before,so I attended this course in order to improve my English and pass my exams .This year I hope to apply for Erasmus Program, which can help me to get into with natural speakers and practise a lot of English. After graduation I would like to became a tourist guide or translater.
I have to say that I don't have much spare time(I wish I had more),because I'm working too every afternoon,as a employeer in an Employment Agency in Pontedera ,but sometimes,in weekends I like going to the cinema ,going out with my friends ..and most of all I really love traveling eventhough I can't afford it very often .Oops,I think I written more than I wanted to do!:)

  16. Hello everybody my name's Andrea. I'm 23 years old and i come from Matelica(MC), a town in Marche. I'm studying Ingegneria Gestionale in Pisa and i'm attending the second year of the specialisation. I like very much to learn foreing language and i decided to take lessons in the dispetate attempt not to be immediatly recognized as an Italian every time i deal with a native english speaker, furthermore after he recognize me the avarage English man usually starts to laugh at me because of Berlusconi, and i actually don't know how to answer him!
I like to travel very much: this summer i've been in London for 2 months working in a patisserie and it's been a wonderful experience.
I also like sport very much, expecially football, volleyball, cycling, tennis and skying; this means that is very easy to find me at the CUS!
I think i wrote enough now, i don't know if tomorrow i'll be at the lesson, in the worst case see you on Monday!

  17. Hi everybody!
I'm Marta and I'm from a little town near Rome, in Lazio, where I attended my high school and I learnt much about Ancient Greek and Latin, but, unfortunately, I studied English only for two years...Now I study Classical Languages and Literatures at the University of Pisa and I live in a campus. At the moment I'm working hard on my master thesis about some greek papyri from Graeco-Roman Egypt, in fact Paleography is one of my fields of interest, but I also like Ancient History and Archaeology. I decided to attend this course to improve my English skills, in particular listening and speaking, because I had only one exam at university and it doensn't seem to me enaugh... Sorry if I don't write more about me now, but I don't like blogging very much, so if you want to know something else about me or if you want to talk about the Ancient World, ask me in class!! See you soon, bye!

  18. Hello everybody,
my name is Roberto and I come from South Lazio. I study Computer Science at the University of Pisa and I hope to finish my studies next year.
I decided to attend an English course at CLI for various reasons. First of all, as a computer scientist, I read lots of documentation, technical articles and books in English (almost always, no translations in Italian are available). So, my reading abilities are pretty good, unlike my speaking ones: I hope to improve my spoken English during the course. Besides, I like English very much: my passion started studying 20th-century English literature in high school, especially Joyce; maybe it's too simplistic, but I realized the beauty of English language while reading Joyce. After my graduation, I would like to pass a working experience abroad in Great Britain or in Ireland, so in case it's useful to keep my English trained. Finally, I'm going to attend this course because it's fun. :)

I have a lot of hobbies: restricting to those related to English language, I like very much watching TV series (especially when the Italian dubbing is bad ("The Big Bang Theory" for instance)) and TV programmes, listening to music and reading manga in English. By the way, the original version of mangas is in Japanese, but on the Web it's easier to find new (that is, not yet published in Italy) mangas in English than in Italian.

Well, I think it's enough; besides, today I've gone for a hike in Lunigiana, it has been wonderful but now I am dead tired. :)
    See you tomorrow,
    Roberto

  19. Hi, I'm Raffaele and I'm 22 years old. I was born in Latina, a city near Rome, but I've lived in Pisa since September 2005, when I started university. Latina is a modern city, it was founded in the early year of 19th century, and it is like an "italian meltin pot" because here there are people from different region of Italy, with their own different dialect

I study Biomedical Engineering and I hope to bring my part in the modern medicine, maybe by a better instrumentation for doctors and hospital.

By the and, I like sports and listening to music; I have done Karate since I arrived in Pisa and last summer I get the orange belt (degree in Karate are differentiated by the color of the belt).
I listen any kind of music, I like going to concert, but I'm not able to play any instrument; maybe in the future I will learn it!

I hope this course will improve my English, this could be good to take new experiences abroad

    See you at CLI
    Bye bye

    Raffaele

  20. Hello!
    I'm Elena and I'm 23 years old.
I come from Senigallia, a little city near Ancona.
I started university in Ancona, where I got my degree in Biomedical Engineering and from the last year I'm studying in Pisa to complete my university years.
I think that Pisa is a very beautiful city but I don't like living here when it starts raining.
I like reading, watching films and playing with children. I live in a sea city, so I like very much also going to the beach and swimming.
I played the piano but I stopped some years ago because I hadn't enought time. I'm a bit sad of it, but I'm sure it was the best thing to do.
I would like to do some sport, but I'm too lazy to begin doing one, so I go walking or rollerblading when I have time to do it.
I hope to improve my English in this course because I stopped to study it at the end of the high school.
Now it's raining and I hope it will stop quickly.
    Bye bye

  21. Hi!
I'm Augusto, I was born in Bulgaria 23 years ago but I've lived in Italy since I was five. I study Industrial Engineering in Pisa and I usually go back to my hometown on weekeends. I like living in Pisa despite it's a small town and there's almost no nightlife. In my spare time I like playing football, volleyball(despite my height),chess and jogging. Last month I worked in London and I improved my English a bit; however I also realized I had some problems in understanding fluently spoken English so i decided to attend this course. After three lessons I can say I have fun and coming here has been definitely a good thing.
    Bye! Augusto

  22. Hi, my name is Francesco and I'm 26 years old. I come from San Miniato, a little town between Pisa and Florence. Currently, i'm a first year Ph.D. student in information engineering and my research regrds mainly remote sensing systems. In my spare time i like playng sports or read books. Usually in the weekends, if the weather is fine, i really like to go for a long ride with my motorcylce. The main reason of why i'm attending a cli course is because i want to reach a reasonably good level in speaking and writing, so i can fruitfully interact with foreigner colleagues avoiding confusion or misunderstandings. In my future i'd like to get a work that deals with my studies (nowadays this can be regarded as a dream). I think that's enough. See you on monday

  23. Hi everyone. I'm Francesco Cerrai. I am 26 years old and I come from Lugnano, a village near Cascina (PI).
I study Art History. I decided to attend an english course at CLI to understand more easily what foreign writers are saying. I also would like to express my ideas more easily.
On august I went to the United Kingdom for the summer holidays. I visited London for 6 days, and then Scotland for 5 days. Afterthat I flight to Ireland and I spent there the last 5 days. It was a very exciting experience. I liked walking through woods, grasslands and beaches very much.
One of my passions is car racing and I was quite surprised when I knew that one of the most popular tv programme in Great Britain is about cars. So I found another reason to improve my listening skills: I will be able to see the programme on the net and I'll understand what the presenters talk about.
I think that's enough. See you at the next lesson. Good night!

  24. THE PICTURE OF MARY GRACE

    Hi there,

I’m sorry but I have nothing new to write about me.
You can find out everything about myself (where I come from, where I’m living at the moment, my studies, my hobbies etc.) on Pedagogicdesign 2 blog, the only different thing is that now I’m a little bit older, I’m 29.

Then, in this period my life is wretched!! I’ve not a lot of free time, so at the moment I’m not enjoying life so much.
    Why?
Because I’m a scientist (I have always thought that this expression sounds good in English, while it sounds ridiculous in Italian), so I spend all of my time at University lab. Sometimes I go there on Saturday and Sunday as well. But two times in a week I’m able to go to swimming poll, this is the only my relaxation.
I think if I want to find a good job, now I have to go hard at my work and my study. In fact I’d like to find a job that not only gives me the opportunity to put food on the table, but it gives me also the satisfaction to discover some useful things. I’d like a job that enjoys myself. Once Kary Mullis, a Nobel Chemistry Prize Winner, said that the biochemistry lab is a place to play, well I agree with him!!
Probably, I can’t have my cake and eat it too. But I want to have a go.

Finally, I haven’t deliberately written the subject of my PhD research, because I will post it on blog the next time.

  25. Hello to everybody,
I'm Susanna and I live with my family in Livorno and I work as a receptionist in a surgery.
Presumably, I'm one of the oldest Alicia's students and unlike the others I'm not in the University field.
Considering that ,one could ask the reason why I have decided to do a language course.
First, I like foreign languages ,especially english and its culture in general.English literature ,art but also music and films have always taken an important role in our society,so that it's difficult not to be attracted by them.Cosequently knowing the languages becomes an indispensable mean to understand and to value all these important aspects.
Secondly,I think that we never end to learn,in particular languages change constantly and a frequent revision is important.
After studying at the University and attending some course in Cambridge ,my english needs to be improved,so I have decided for this course. This is a high level one and it won't be easy to keep up with so young students.I'll put all my efforts into it , I' m sure it will be in the end a new experience for me.
My hobbies are the same of most of all:music , cinema , books .I like sports but only recently I 've taken up a Pilates course, after that a very painful hernia forced me to a year of phisiotherapy. Its exercises,on the basis of yoga and stretching work-out, can give benefit to muscles and can loosen tensions and pain in the neck or the back.Definitely.,it's more appropiate to me (with my age...)but you should consider in the future..!
    Bye
I hope I haven't bored you so much
    Susanna
