Post a blog entry about something you are passionate about, i.e. your favourite sport, hobby or any topic that is important to you. Try and explain what it is that makes your interest so important to you.

  1. Hi everyone!
Last time I said that I like "The Sims 3". The best thing about playing it is the way you are teleported into the virtual world because it's a safe way to play.
Life simulating games often "capture" you in the virtual world; games like Second Life scare me a little because I'm not sure about other people's intentions and especially because the web is as interesting as dangerous.
"The Sims" isn't online and I feel more confident and protected if I do everything on my own and by my own efforts.
Another thing that I like about playing it is the way you can personalize your character, in fact, you can modify whatever you want, even the tone of your voice and the temperament.
I recommend this game to everyone who wants to have fun without taking the risks that, unluckily, the web present.
    See you on Monday

  2. My favourite sport is bowling. The game is played on a 60 feet long lane where at the end there are ten pins. The goal of the game is to throw a ball trying to knock down as much pins as you can. Bowling requires good body coordination and also good concentration. A professional bowler is able to repeat the same shot again and again.
The maximum score in a game is 300 and is called the perfect game (twelve strikes in a row). My personal best is 214 but my average is betweeen 150 and 160.
I don't know why i like bowling so much, it's just rolling a ball againts ten pins but i like to spend a lot of time playing it and improving my technique.
Unfortunately all my friend are just casual players and since i started bowling training nobody wants to play with me anymore because they usually loose. On the other hand i'm not good enough to compete with good players in tournaments.
Anyway currently i'm out of practice so we can arrange a night at bowling just for fun or maybe challenge other CLI courses' teams.

    Bye and see you tomorrow

  3. Hi everyone,
I like sport in general and one that I love is tennis. I've started taking tennis lesson when I was sixteen and so too "old" for doing it competitively but I wasen't interested to become a professional tennis player. My goal was to reach a good level for playing tennis with someone once or twice a week. I prefer singles because it's just you against your opponent and you have the exclusive control of the field. I have no problem with my forehand and backhand stroke instead of my serve is very bad: considering that often this shot is used as an offensive weapon to gain a point, when I play tennis against a stronger opponent than me I haven't much chance to win but that makes me let my light shine.
I also love swimming and several yars ago my instructor asked me to do some training days with his new non professional water polo female team. Water polo is a very hard sport and need a lot of physical and mental engagement more than tennis. I learned how to swim with the head out of water or stay afloat by kicking my legs quickly, to catch and throw the ball with either hand and also catch the ball from any direction and last but no least the tricks of the trade used during a real match avoiding to commit fouls. In fact sometimes the match became very aggressive, the water splashing everywhere and you have a clouded vision of the field and when you are staying afloat waiting that someone of your team throw you the ball often your opponent tries to push you under the water hanging on the top of you or gives you some kicks on your legs. Without any doubt I can tell you that water polo is the toughest sport that I have ever done but I also took some advantage doing it like improving my skills in swimming and enjoying of a long state of wellness even after left the team.
Remaining in the same field of interest there are lot of other thing that I like to do: running, scuba diving, tango...but I think I've bored you enough with sport next time I'll tell you about my last passion: knitting!
    see you tomorrow

  4. Hello everybody,
I would like to talk about one of my greatest passion: manga. Outside Japan, the term "manga" refers to Japanese comics, while in Japan it refers to comics in general (I am not in Japan, so I use the term in the first meaning :) ).
In Western countries, they are often perceived "just as comics", but in Japan they are considered a form of art (so they are produced with a lot of painstaking) and are full of references to local culture and traditions. We are often subject to another misconception: we consider them like "comics for kids". This is absolutely false. In general, each manga has a particular target audience, according to the age (so there are not only manga for kids), and in Japan they are read by people of all ages. Another kind of subdivision is by subject:romance, sports, games, action-adventure, science fiction, fantasy, historical drama, sexuality, horror (and these are only the ones that come to my mind!). The last important subdivision is in manga for male readers and manga for female readers.
They are printed in black and white. The reading flow follows the Japanese convention from top to bottom and from right to left.
Now I must stop, it's late and tomorrow morning there is the English lesson :P
    Bye!
    Roberto

PS: I agree with Yap's proposal of a bowling evening!

  5. Hello folks! I don't remember if I have to talk about the same subject that I explained at the last lesson.
Anyway I'll write something else about Formula one.
As you probably know the 2009 championship has been finished today (1st november) with Abu Dhabi grand prix and the world champion driver is the british Jenson Button.
World championship started in 1950 with 8 races on european tracks. In the last season there were 17 grand prixes. Each one is 300 kilometres long. The 2008 Singapore grand prix was the first Formula one race to be held at night.
Lately Formula one world has been entered a crisis because of problems like: boring races, irregularities committed by teams and exaggerated increase of the number of rules.
The new president of F.I.A. (Fédération International de l'Automobile) Jean Todt has to solve that problems to keep racing supporters.
I hope I don't bore you too much. See you tomorrow morning. Good night!

  6. Hi there!
Something I'm passionate about... that's not an easy question. I'm not practicing any particular hobbies or sports, I'm not a constant person but a sport that I like watching and practicing time to time, even if I'm not good in it, it's swimming.
Water is not our natural element but I love see how people can move so flowing in it, maybe mine is a bit of jealousy for swimmers because I'm a little bit afraid of water, high water, I don't feel completely safe but I try to compete with it going to swim in a swimming pool.
The thing that i like most and that force me to go to swim is the feeling that i have when the water flow on my skin, it is complicated to explane what it is: it's freedom, the mind is lighter, the body is not important anymore, the soul can be whatever it wants; I image that this feeling for professional swimmers is deeper thought that it's not blocked by any fears.
Another reason to improve my skills in swimming is that i love sea and under water there are many treasures to admire!

    It's becoming late,
    see you in a bit!

  7. Hello everybody,
I like many sports such as skying ,tennis but Swimming is for me and for other Luisa's students ,my favourite one.I can't stand lying on the beach or on the rocks for hours, without jumping into tha water.Especially in front of crystal clear water such on islands,I can't resist,I have to swim into it and it's emotionally very rewarding.Besides swimming doesn't involve ,unlike other sports ,very expensive equipment and this makes the difference.
I also like dancing , latin-american or ballroom dancing and even though I'm not young I appreciate the fact that I can share this hobby with friends and enjoy myself.
Only recently,I have taken up Pilates. In addition to the fact that it relieves back pain, caused by our stiff and incorrect movements, it also involes your mind.As a matter of fact, you have to be concentrated on the movements of your body which can be graceful and not too brisk or fast. While doing the exercise ,it's necessary to control your breath.and that can help to reduce stress.I consider this activity as an opportunity to slow down a bit,but I think it could benefit everyone.
    Bye Susanna
